If you're a fan of the original Skins then you know how real it seems. You felt every little thing the characters were going through as if you were in the situations. The adaptation seems like a bunch of man-made clichéd materials were thrown together then regurgitated into basically another Degrassi: The Next Generation.
But the corny writing, and terrible characterization aren't even the problems that I have with the show. Excuse me while I stand on my soapbox for a moment (i'll try not to go to deep into detail):
- The exclusion of a central gay male character (Maxxie was replaced with gay female character Tea).
- The old race switcheroo or "whitewashing" as I like to call it. This doesn't surprise me considering America does it quite often. But what was so wrong with keeping the Black girl a smart and successful musical protege? Why was she replaced with an Asian girl? Because it's more acceptable perhaps?
- Not only was Jal whitewashed but the Black female character was turned into the basket case with an unstable household and a slew of mental problems.
All I can do is shake my head. America is losing, guys.
THANKYOU!! I have to agree with this post 100%....appaling stuff! And i just saw on another blog that apaz they stole SHameless as well? THEY are shameless...non-original twerps LOL
